My name is Kate and I'm the President of Tried-and-True Home Inspections. I first picked up a power tool when I was in high school. Using tools has always felt natural to me and I learned how to use them correctly and safely; I built sets for plays and my own furniture. In 2003 I received my undergraduate degree in communications from the University of New Orleans. In 2006 I graduated from Drexel University with a master's degree in technical communication.
After years of working in an office, I decided to get out from behind a desk and start a handy-girl business; I helped people fix and maintain their homes. Home repair, improvement, and maintenance was something I had always done for myself and my friends. Creating a business around it made sense. The real satisfaction came with educating my clients about how to do the maintenance themselves. Becoming a home inspector was the natural next step for me. I attended the Inspector Education Institute in Robbinsville, NJ and received an excellent education that set the foundation for the work required to obtain a home inspector license.
If there’s one thing I want my clients to walk away with it’s knowledge. My home inspection report is more than a bargaining tool in a real estate transaction. We will check all accessible areas of the residential home including the structural components, exterior components, roofing system, plumbing system, electrical system, heating system, cooling system, interior components, insulation components and ventilation system, and fireplaces and solid fuel burning appliances. In your detailed report, we will describe all of the above systems and components, state what material defects are found and the significance of those findings, and provide recommendations regarding the need to repair, replace, monitor, or obtain evaluation by a qualified professional. Radon is a naturally-occurring radioactive gas that has no color, smell, or taste. It is present in nearly all soils and is found in the air we breathe every day. Radon comes from the natural decay of uranium. Uranium will decay to radium and eventually radon. The problem occurs when radon gas enters your home and gets trapped. Breathing air with radon will increase your risk of lung cancer. Any home can have elevated radon levels regardless of age, condition or design. While we don't do Wood Destroying Insect Inspections in house, we work with reputable pest control services companies in New Jersey. We will handle all of the scheduling to ensure same day inspections.
